Sosiaalisessa mediassa on noussut esiin huolta ja aiheellista kritiikkiä koskien World Cosplay Summitia ja erityisesti WCS:n näytöskisaa, joka järjestetään Saudi-Arabiassa.

Tracon ei osallistu millään tavalla kyseiseen näytöskisaan. Emme tue tapahtumaa rahallisesti emmekä lähetä tapahtumaan osallistujia missään muodossa. Olemme tiedottaneet WCS:n organisaatiota päätöksestämme.

World Cosplay Summit -karsinnat järjestetään toistaiseksi tavalliseen tapaan Traconissa, ja karsinnan voittajat saavat mahdollisuuden osallistua varsinaiseen World Cosplay Summit -kisaan, joka järjestetään Japanissa. Tämän vuoden Traconissa järjestettävään karsintaan ei olla lähtökohtaisesti tekemässä muutoksia, sillä kisaajat ovat jo valmistautumassa karsintaan, emmekä koe heitä kohtaan oikeudenmukaiseksi perua karsintaa tänä vuonna.

Olemme hyvin pettyneitä siihen, että World Cosplay Summit tekee yhteistyötä Saudi-Arabian kanssa ja järjestää toistamiseen tapahtuman maassa, jonka ihmisoikeusloukkaukset ovat hyvin tiedossa. Keskustelemme sisäisesti järjestäjien ja hallituksen kesken siitä, jatkuuko yhteistyö WCS:n kanssa tulevaisuudessa.

There have been worries and rightful criticism in social media regarding the World Cosplay Summit and especially the WCS exhibition event, which is held in Saudi Arabia.

Tracon does not participate in this event in any way. We do not support the event financially and we do not send participants to the event in any form. We have informed the WCS organization about this decision.

The World Cosplay Summit preliminaries will continue as usual in Tracon for the time being, and the winners of the preliminaries will be able to participate in the World Cosplay Summit main event, which is held in Japan.

We will not make changes to this year’s preliminaries, and they will be held normally, because the competitors are already preparing for the preliminaries. We do not think it is fair to the competitors if we were to cancel the preliminaries this year.

We are very disappointed that the World Cosplay Summit is partnering with Saudi Arabia and holding an exhibition event for a second time in a country that is well known for its human rights violations.

The organizers and the board of Tracon will discuss whether the cooperation with WCS will continue in the future.
